Real CPA. Real Life.
The #RealCPA campaign is an initiative led by the AICPA’s Diversity & Inclusion team and the National Commission on Diversity and Inclusion to increase awareness of the CPA profession nationwide among students and budding professionals. By spotlighting practitioners with unique backgrounds, we put a face to the profession and change the perception of the career.
Why is this important?
The AICPA's 2019 Trends Report: Trends in the Supply of Accounting Graduations and the Demand for Public Accounting Recruits shows increased diversity at the university level with the highest percentage of non-white enrollees to date. However, we still have work to do to ensure a diverse and robust pipeline of talent is aware of the possibilities in the profession and progress to CPA.
In 2018, we saw an increase of 3% points of nonwhite enrollees to 44%.
Since 2012, the percentage of non-white new hires has been 30%, but with changes in the demographic breakdown.
How can you help?
The goal of the #RealCPA campaign is to educate students on the multitude of opportunities that exist as a CPA, while positioning the profession as one that is highly-respected, vibrant and fascinating. This campaign is designed to find CPAs with interesting stories and backgrounds and feature them in communications and social media posts to inspire a new generation to become a #RealCPA.
