Program Overview
The AICPA Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award recognizes full-time college accounting educators distinguished for excellence in teaching and national prominence in the accounting profession. The award has a dual function: to extend profession-wide recognition to the recipient and promote role models in academia.
- State CPA societies and individuals may submit nominations for the annual award.
- Self-nominations are not accepted.
Program Background
To be eligible for consideration, you must nominate and submit all materials electronically by February 28, 2025 at 5:00 PM EST.
Processes and Procedures
- Submit a nomination for the AICPA Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education award through this portal.
- 2023 and 2024 nominees who are not selected will remain eligible for the 2028 DAAE award, provided they meet the selection criteria
- Past award recipients and current members of the AICPA Academic Executive Committee are not eligible to be nominated. However, if they were nominated prior to their appointment on the AEC, then their nomination will be considered.
- A judging panel comprised of peers within the academic community vets all submissions and will reach out with their determinations by end of April 2025.
- The winner will be expected to attend the awards luncheon at the AAA Annual Meeting.
Criteria
The judging panel will use the following as their primary criteria to judge submissions:
- Nominee is a current full-time or recently retired (within the past five years) accounting educator at a post-secondary educational institution, as demonstrated by his/her record of teaching.
- Nominee is distinguished for excellence in classroom teaching, as demonstrated by summaries of student evaluations, letters from former students, or notification of receipt of previous teaching awards.
- Nominee is involved in curriculum development, as demonstrated by innovative teaching practices consistent with the broadening role of the CPA, and is a recipient of awards, honors, recognitions related to their research and/or teaching practices.
- Nominee is contributing to the accounting profession, as demonstrated by his/her active involvement in professional activities such as leadership in national and/or state professional accounting organizations.
- Nominee exemplifies the philosophy of the CPA Vision, as demonstrated by his/her commitment to life-long learning and the effective development of incoming professionals. The CPA Vision is defined as “enabling individuals to shape their accounting careers by communicating the total picture with clarity and objectivity, translating complex information into critical knowledge, anticipating and creating opportunities, and designing pathways that foster growth for and within the CPA profession.”
- Nominee is a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (Green Card holder).
- Nominee may not be a past award recipient of the Distinguished Achievement in Accounting Education Award.
- Nominee may not be a current member of the AICPA Academic Executive Committee. However, if members were nominated prior to their appointment on the AEC, then their nomination will be considered.
Electronic Materials Required
- Nominee’s current resume.
- Nomination statement on how the nominee meets the eligibility criteria 1-5.
- A brief, one-paragraph summary explaining why you believe the nominee deserves the award.
- Record of nominee’s teaching career, summaries of student and/or peer evaluations (not more than 5), letters from colleagues (not more than 5), letters from current and/or former students (not more than 5), list of previous teaching awards, description of innovative teaching practices and list of leadership positions held in the profession.
